Introduction
I had started mapping lakes locally and selling paper maps through bait shops when I
decided it'd be fun and interesting to make an imagery map of Devils Lake, ND of
before the water went up.  It took some time to find, buy and photo rectify the maps I
wanted but after I'd printed up three sets of them it became very clear that the time
and expense of a laminated paper map wasn't  going to make it. This one map was
over 30 double sided 11"X17" pages that ate ink and ended up not having the
resolution I wanted to show  every detail  before the flood. Then I remembered  some
of the fellow ham radio operators I'd worked with chasing storms talking about
moving map softwares.
My original CAD software I used is too expensive for the average person so I turned
to two other programs, Fugawi and Global Mapper.  Global Mapper is a great
program and  I use it to do all my designing but it's more for people experienced in
working with maps and computers so I'll dedicate another page for it and cover just
Fugawi here.
