Importing maps into Fugawi
Fugawi pretty much installs itself so I won't go over it here.   After you've installed
Fugawi you need to import maps to use in it.  First your going to need to know what
format the maps your importing are.  I try to name the folders for each map set with the
format at the end.
Here's how you select
the format the maps are
in to import them. In this
case  ECW was the map
format, which I use the
most of.
Once you select the
format a window opens
prompting you to go to
the folder on your hard
drive their stored in.
This is why I like to put the map folder directly on the hard drive as a root folder, so its
easily found.  Once your find the right folder all the files of that type will s
how on the
right.  Click
Select All to import all files or high lite just those you want. Then click OK.
The window will then close.
Fugawi creates a folder in your Map Library with the name of
what every file format you were importing. The top three in
the window below are examples.  You can access the Map
Library either with Control L or through Maps - Open Map
Now if you keep importing files of that
type they'll all be imported into that
folder, but you'll find out that its better
to keep things separated by the Lakes

and years
or the  folders they came in
on the CD's.
More than likely, in the future your going to want to add maps
of more than one lake or region to your map library so it's
best to start off by creating a base folder with the name of it.
Right click on Maps and select New Folder and Fugawi will
create it.  Now rename it for the lake or region the maps your
going to store in it are from.
When ever going into the Map Library, if your going to change some thing, be sure to
uncheck the lock box in the lower left corner of the Map Library window first.
To move the file type folders in to Lake or Region base base folder place your cursor
over that folder and hold down the left mouse button and drag the type folder into the
proper folder for that region or lake. In this case I created a folder under Maps for
Sakakawea and drug the three file type folders on to it. Be carefull not to drop them in
the wrong folder or sub folder.  Now when you click on each type you'll see the maps
inside.  Right click on the folders and rename them by the date and maybe Lake they
represent.
This way  each is in its separate area.  This comes in
handy when there are certain sets of maps you may
want to bypass for given reasons.  Each sub folder
will have a check box that you can check or uncheck
to bypass that folder.
Now if you have multiple lakes, you just add another
folder for each lake and move and rename each map
set folder as you import them, always doing it before
you do the next.
